Residence permit for Hungarian Card
As of 2024, Hungary's immigration law has changed and become much stricter. It is only possible to obtain a Hungarian residence permit through employment if the country regards the new employee as a valuable asset.
From March 1, 2024, highly qualified employees with outstanding professional qualifications will be able to apply for a Hungarian Card.
A Hungarian Card may be granted to a third-country national,
whose purpose of residence is to perform actual work for or under the direction of others, for remuneration, under contract for employment relationship, or
who, as an owner or managing director of a company, association or other legal entity- established for gainful activities-, performs actual work in addition to the activities falling within the scope of this activity.
The Hungarian Card may also be issued to third-country nationals with higher professional qualifications who are employed in Hungary on the basis of an agreement concluded between an employer established in a third country and a domestic employer in order to fulfil an agreement.

The professional qualification for which the Hungarian Card can be obtained is determined by the competent minister of the Hungarian government. In addition, professional athletes, coaches, artists and people working in film companies can also obtain the Hungarian Card.
