The new law has become stricter in many aspects, but at the same time it has brought back the possibility for financially well-off foreigners to obtain the previously existing investment residence permit, with which the applicant can obtain a long-term (up to 10 years), renewable opportunity to stay in Hungary by investing a minimum of 250,000 euros.
An important fact is that not only the applicant, but also his/her immediate family members can also obtain a residence permit without the requirement of a minimum period of stay in Hungary. With an investment-based residence permit you also have the right to work or have a business in Hungary without restrictions.
Investors are offered three options to choose from: invest in local real estate funds, buy residential property or make a donation to a higher education institution. You need to keep the investment for a minimum of 5 years. The investment condition must be fulfilled within 93 calendar days after the first entry into Hungary on the investor's visitor visa.
