Nomad visa, White Card, aka Fehér Kártya

The White Card is issued to third-country nationals who:

  • are in a certified employment relationship in a country outside of Hungary and perform their work from Hungary using advanced digital technology, or own a share in a certified profit company in a country outside of Hungary and perform their work or operate their company from Hungary using advanced digital technologies

  • meet the general conditions of stay in Hungary for more than 90 days within 180 days and are not subject to any of the disqualifications provided for by law, and

  • do not carry out any profitable activity in Hungary and do not own a share in a Hungarian company.


A person is not eligible for a White Card if he/she:

  • Third-country national whose purpose of stay is to engage in paid employment

  • to serve as a managing director of a company, cooperative or other legal entity established for profit

  • is self-employed for remuneration (e.g. self-employed)

  • has a residence permit for the purpose of study or is undertaking a short-term supervised internship as part of the study

  • is on an internship in Hungary

  • applied for refugee status with an asylum authority or applied for temporary or subsidiary protection with an asylum authority

  • was recognized as a refugee and Hungary granted temporary or subsidiary protection

  • Third-country national whose deportation has been suspended on factual or legal grounds

  • Third country national with EU residence permit

  • Third-country national who arrived in the Union territory as part of an intra-corporate transfer

  • Third-country national entering the Union territory for the purpose of highly skilled employment


The application for a residence permit can be submitted in person, accompanied by documents confirming the conditions of residence. The application is accompanied by a photograph of the face and an administrative fee in the amount established by specific legislation. A valid travel document must be presented when applying. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the expiration of the permitted right of residence.


Documents to be attached to the application:


Documentary evidence of the purpose of stay

A certified certificate of employment from an employer in a country other than Hungary, which is provided from Hungary using modern digital technologies and contains a document confirming employment in this country, where:

  • field of activity of the employer

  • Regulations on remote electronic work and its permitted duration

  • position and place of work of a third-country national with an employer

Having an ownership interest in a company with proven profits, which is operated or managed from Hungary with the help of advanced digital technologies, and which contains in the document:

  • data that reliably confirm the real and effective functioning of the enterprise

  • work and position held by a third-country national in an enterprise

  • enterprise activity.

The application must be accompanied by the documents necessary to confirm the above cases of receiving benefits.

  • document confirming the right to housing

  • lease agreement

  • document confirming the right to housing free of charge

  • a completed declaration of residence form signed by the accommodation provider

  • other documents

Proof of livelihood

  • Certificate of income from the employer for the previous six months

  • employment contract, other agreement

  • other documents (e.g. bank statement, bank statement)

Proof of comprehensive health insurance coverage

During the procedure, the Aliens Registration Authority may also request additional documents to clarify the facts.
